Do center stands take away from the twisties?
05/14/09 5:16 PM

SUP GUYS Just got my zx saturday just wondering obout the pros and cons of a center stand. I had a FZ1 before that (great bike BTW) but the center stand proved to be a must. Especialy since I did all my own work. Not to mention if you have to tweek, or repair a flat on the road. Never used any other kind of stand. Can you take both tires of with them? Just ordered some vance & hines CS1 slip ons, figure there might be a small problem with the stop but that should be easy enough to figure out. Heard they might scrape if you hit the corners hard, and I tap the pegs on a regular basis. Anyone have one and how do you like it or hate it.

eezryder, have a centre stand on my 08 and is great, I don't have any issues with it touching in the tight stuff.
I weigh 83kgs have a friend who is around 115 - 120 kgs, him with pillon on says that it has scraped on tight stuff rough road conditions 2 up.
I don't scrape the pegs that often, and have had no problems.

Great things center stands should have come out with them on in the frist place.

I have a centerstand and ride 2-up in fast twisties. Never had it scrape or cause any problems.

A pussy's way of admitting they've never even touched hard parts on pavement, unless you count a bunch of totaled bikes.
Also showing poor foot placement.

I can't be friends with anyone I can't trust around my family. I should have known anyone who would make a move on a friend's wife wouldn't be deterred by any moral restraint around a 16-year-old daughter. They used to think alcoholism was an excuse. Now they know it actually brings out a person's true personality.

Regardless of your speculation, the fact is, you can't fucking ride.
You act like the all mighty guru from which all bike knowledge flows, yet you're a total fucking hack with a wrench and can't ride to save your life.

Chicks hit on me. Get over it.

Are you implying that Danno’s daughter hit on you? I'm sure pedophiles like R.Kelly would love your position on this discussion.

No sane sober woman has ever hit on Jimmy. He can say all he wants about my riding and mechanical abilities, it doesn't change the fact that he's a low-life piece of shit whose ugly, warty, balding wife has to buy him everything and he's so soft he has to trailer two huge motorcycles everywhere because he can't get away from the whiskey bottle long enough to ride either one of them. He thinks he's a ladies man, but all he is is a nasty pervert and a self-centered mama's boy. The only reason he hates me is I tell the truth about his low-life behavior and his tiny little balls aren't big enough for him to admit what a scumbag he really is.

Just ran across this little gem while searching for info on center stands.

I can always count on the Ninjaforum and its members for 100% unrelated drama, and a constant willingness to use the nuclear option.

Holy cow!~ An interesting exchange---!
But--back to center stands--get one! You'll love it for chain maintenance and oil changes.
A comment--the bike is HEAVY and it does take some finesse and strength for me to get the bike up onto the stand--but there's gotta be a technique and I'll find it one day...

I don't have a center stand anymore but ..........

Try running the front tire up on a plank like a 1" x 6" and it makes it easier
to get the bike up on the stand.

You are correct. It's 90% technique. A friend who weighs 140ish had no problem getting his FJR up on the center stand with this technique.

* With the bike on it's side stand approach it from the left side.

* Place your right foot on the center stand and press down to the slab/floor/etc.

* Place your left hand on the left handle bar grip and take a firm hold.

* Place your right hand on the grab bar behind the left passenger peg mount, use the peg mount if there's no grab bar.

* Start bringing the bike off the side stand while continuing to hold enough preasure on the centerstand to maintain contact with the slab/floor/etc

* Once the bike starts approaching upright position mash down hard on the center stand. Imagine yourself pushing the center stand right through the slab/floor! The bike will all but leap up onto the center stand. It's physics, it's a good thing.

* If the bike has been lowered any it will be more difficult, if it has been raised it will be easier.

Hope this helps I've never tried to just tell someone how to do it I've always been able to show them. I've never shown anyone that could not do it no matter how small of an individual.

He probably won't be back. He got fired for being a drunk and his bike and mama's boy's plastic toy got repoed.
